Is there a web design software for Mint 18?

Sorry for another newbie question.

I have searched on-line for website design software for Mint 18. Google doesn't show anything but then I don't know what it maybe called. I watched one guy on YouTube who was messing about and when he started the program from the menu he mumbled the name and it was too blurred to read. However some of the comments underneath were a little dismissive about what he was using.

I am used to Front-Page and Expression Web so anything along those lines would be fantastic. The trouble is I don't know what to search for.

Any help please.

Thanks in advance.

Edd

Hi "Mr Edd",

Welcome to the wonderful world of Linux Mint and its excellent forum !

I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well.

FYI: Most of the web hosting companies offer WYSIWYG web builders as part of their services. "Zyro Builder" is one of the easiest, and best, website programs that I have ever tried, and it is included in a lot of various web hosts and from their main website.

I hope these help. :D

Wow and thank you. I can see I shall be busy tomorrow playing with these.

No problem. I am use to Dreamweaver myself.... I have been using it since it first came out from Macromedida. I haven't tried installing it on Linux yet because I am on a crappy laptop atm.... but hoping it will work with Wine when I get a new one. I really don't want to go back to windows when I get a new laptop. I hope I can get the whole Adobe suite to work, I miss photoshop and premiere... and others lol.

Dreamweaver 8 runs fine on Wine on my Mint 17.3 installation. Just FYI.

There is yet another way of approaching this.

You can get a "framework" - I use Bootstrap http://getbootstrap.com/ which comes with all the JS and CSS ready to use and able to be modified. Comes with page templates that you can just add content to or modify with an HTML editor. Personally I like and use Bluefish. You can even purchase page themes for specific purposes and just fill in the content.

Do a search on "web page frameworks" and you will find there are many alternatives depending on what you are making.

BTW, I like Bootstrap because it is fully responsive and scales itself from mobile to desktops.

Thanks for this! :) I will give it a shot. I might be able to get dreamweaver in but not sure about the others because this laptop is crappy.

Hmmm, I have heard of this, I will give it a try. I really don't like using templates, I prefer to make my own, I just like some of the automated features of Dreamweaver. I use to use a program called CodeCharge with is absolutely fantastic in saving time, however where it will install under wine, it will not run. I had trouble with it in Windows7 as well as I need to purchase an upgrade for 299.00 for the newer windows OS. Even though I am using windows XP in wine, which is what I was running when I purchased it, it still will not run. I was thinking of trying virtualbox and installing XP in there to see if I can use it that way, but this laptop is really low on ram and HD space.

Thanks again, going to that link now! :)

You can start the HTML from scratch - templates are an option. The nice thing about going this way is you have JS and CSS ready to use or be modified + when there are updates you can just upload the new files to your host public file in the CSS or JSS or theme.CSS subfolders.

I was wondering about that. I downloaded it and it just had 3 folders in it. I thought it was software LOL. I looks like it can save some time. I usually google things I don't know and modify the code I find to fit my needs. Looks like this can do a lot. :) Thanks again.

WARNING!!!

If you do try BlueGriffon (not sure about other Linux WYSIWYG editors) and you do any kind of programming, I would suggest something else. I tried to open a html page that contained php and it totally messed up the php code.

OOOOPS!!

Now, I'm a graphic designer who eventually wants to get into doing some basic web-design as well (self promotion and non-profit work). I need your opinion about which web-editor you think is the best for Linux... Seamonkey, Bluefish or some other editor?

Hmmm, thought I'd have a look at brackets...

I don't think so, I'll stick with visual studio code and bluefish.
